KidsRStrong2 to host community blood drive September 10 at Victory Camp in Alvin
September 2, 2016
Local public charity KidsRStrong2 will partner with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center to collect donations for patients in need of blood transfusions. The blood drive will take place on Saturday, September 10 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Victory Camp, during the organization's Family Fun Day.
“With recent events across the country, there is an extremely high need for the collection of blood at this point,” mentioned Latisha Polk, Blood Center account representative.
The blood drive will take place in the parking lot of Victory Camp, which is located at 1407 Victory Ln. in Alvin. All members of the local community and beyond are welcome to participate to help the organization save lives, one pint at a time.
Individuals interested in donating must be at least 17 years of age (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in good health. All prospective donors will need to bring a valid form of identification, along with a blood donor card, if applicable.
“We are excited to host this blood drive in honor of my son, Isaiah Gamble, who in 2010 battled a rare form of lung cancer, Pleuropulmonary Blastoma, Type III. During and after his battle he received numerous life-saving blood transfusions, which we are extremely thankful to the donors for,” said Tomika Gamble, mother of Isaiah and founder and president of KidsRStrong2.
Appointments can be made in advance by visiting www.giveblood.org, and logging into the Digital Donor, then entering sponsor code V140.
